Konzert Im Kub 1

  • Kunsthaus Bregenz Karl-Tizian-Platz Bregenz, Vorarlberg, 6900 Austria (map)

I was invited to curate a concert of music in partnership with Bregenzfestspiele in August 2023, music which has either meant something to me over the years or influenced my work. I selected a programme which utilised strings, percussion and electronics and also incorporated a piece I am currently working on which will appear on my debut album.

It was a joy to work with musicians from the Symphonieorchester Vorarlberg and Ensemble Plus, and stage the performance in the sonorous Kunsthaus Bregenz.

How does music change our perception of space and time? Do sounds make us float and transport us to other spheres? With her beguiling program, the Belgian-Irish composer Éna Brennan, together with musicians from the Vorarlberg Symphony Orchestra, invites the audience on an extraordinary journey into their own senses. The focus is on a string quartet and a percussionist who play music by different composers and genres from the 20th and 21st centuries.

This concert is curated by Éna Brennan, who is artistically active in many different ways: she plays the violin, sings, composes and arranges, creates electronic sounds and also works as a graphic designer.

As part of the Opera Atelier, Éna Brennan is currently working on a new project with director David Pountney and visual artist Hugo Canoilas. How can an opera sound, look and be experienced in the 21st century? With the Opera Atelier, the Bregenz Festival and the Kunsthaus Bregenz are opening up a space for artists to share ideas, explore and reflect on things, which will culminate in a world premiere on the workshop stage in 2024. The audience is invited to follow this process over several years and to be seduced by extraordinary sound worlds.
